Jerusalem Cross Hat
The Jerusalem cross has been an iconic symbol throughout world history. Heavily popularized in the crusades, this cross was used as the emblem and coat of arms of the Kingdom of Jerusalem. Many Anglicans, Episcopalians and conservative Catholics symbolize it in reference to the Five Wounds of Christ, Christ and the four evangelists, or Christ and the four quarters of the world. Amongst these attributes to the Jerusalem Cross, Godfrey of Bouillon chose the symbol as his coat of arms throughout his miraculous fight to capture the Holy Sepulchre in the 14th century. After winning the battle, Godfrey was requested to take the title of King. However, he declined the request quoting, "I refuse to wear a crown of gold where my savior wore a crown of thorns" then declaring, "I will only accept the title, protector of the Holy Sepulchre".
